Description: The AZ Prince is tied exclusively with John Rohmer's infamous synthetic blend of dubbing. It's a stout, buggy pattern that is much more durable than the old standard of peacock and biot prince; all the while retaining the fish attraction and catching abilities of its famous predecessor.
What it imitates: Scuds, caddis pupa, dragon fly nymph
When to fish it: Year-round
Where to fish it: Stillwaters, freestone rivers, tailwaters
How to fish it: The AZ Prince can be fished alone or trailed behind a larger leech or baitfish pattern, but it shines when drifted below an indicator. This is a heavy fly that replaces the use of split shot or the old standard Copper John, tie this as your top fly and then hang an All Around Midge underneath and you will catch fish. I have also found that casting this fly into a wind blown bank and using short quick two inch pulls will produce as a scud pattern with a little added attractiveness with the white round rubber wing buds. Last spring at Pyramid Lake, this fly accounted for some absolutely giant Lahontan Cutthroat. One more thing, use a stout leader, such as tapered to 2X, when using the AZ Prince.
