Description: The adult stone fly (salmon fly out west) is an important hatch on the Androscoggin river and certain other rivers here in northern New Hampshire. This is my favorite fly for imitating the adult and is also one of my biggest sellers at a local shop . The Andro Stone has a tail and under wing of deer hair helping it to float very well. This is a big fly designed to catch the attention of big fish. I have caught some of my biggest Androscoggin rainbows with this fly. As with most stone fly imitations this fly can also be used to suggest a grass hopper.
NOTE: Custom orders for a different size hook and/or color(s) are welcomed. Please indicate, at the time of ordering, what you would like. Custom orders may take a little longer.
What it imitates: The adult stone fly or salmon fly
When to fish it: In northern New Hampshire from the third week of may thru July or when ever you see large stone flies out
Where to fish it: Any river that produces large stone flies. Stones can usually be found in the fast gravel, rocky bottom stretches of a river or stream. Look at the rocks along the river's edge for recent empty nymph cases.
How to fish it: In fast moving water cast this fly across and up stream mending line as it is carried down past you. Let it move down stream and allow it to complete its swing before picking it off the water. If you are fishing in pools cast to the up stream end of the pool and allow it to float as naturally as possible. Give just a slight tug occasionally but don't over do it.
Approximate time to complete this order: 5 days (custom orders may take a little longer)
MINIMUM ORDER FOR THIS FLY IS 1 UNIT - 1 UNITS CONSISTS OF 1/2 DOZEN FLIES
