Description: This is the original BFH with it's free wing of burnt orange and it is a killer. First designed for the waters of the Eastern Sierra as a Sacramento perch imitation, it has since gone on to be a much more universal or opportunistic pattern. Here in Idaho, the BFH #1 has become one of the staples as a lead attractor fly while followed or chased by a smaller leech or scud pattern.
What it imitates: Perch fry, scud, baitfish
When to fish it: Year-round
Where to fish it: Stillwaters that have either or both perch and scud populations.
How to fish it: This is a great shallow water (9 feet) fly. Fish it with an intermediate or type 2 sinking line along shallow flats, creek channels and anywhere else associated with chubs or perch fry.
