Logan Cutts - Tier

Logan Cutts

Logan Cutts is new to the fly tying arena, but not to fly fishing. He grew up in Southeast Idaho where he fished some stillwater, the Teton, and Warm River with worms and corn. His grandpa immigrated to Idaho Falls where he worked full-time at a dairy. On the side, he split cane to make quality, home-made bamboo fly rods and tied flies he sold from his home. His grandpa introduced Logan to fly fishing at the age of 9 which he pursued on a leisurely basis throughout his summers and falls. Fly fishing was lost as Logan got older and progressed into his later teen years when fishing with friends consisted of using spinners and crank-bait to catch browns and cutthroats on the Southfork River near his home in Rigby, ID. After several years being away from any type of fishing, while getting his education, Logan has returned back to Idaho Falls to work as a nurse and has resumed fly fishing for fun and pure delight.

In October 2007, Logan began tying and quickly realized he had a passion (and talent) for weaving flies. During winter, he found himself spending a lot of time at Jimmy’s All Season Anglers fly shop in Idaho Falls, watching, getting tips and drawing on different techniques from well known local tiers and guides such as Tim Woodard, Jerry Randolph and Bruce Staples. Logan continued to experiment with weaving and perfected it to the point of being asked to present his woven variations at the 2009 Southeast Idaho Fly Tying Expo. Soon after, Logan opened a small home based business Cutthroat Flies and recently joined MyFlies to further promote his tying talent.

Logan considers the world-class, blue ribbon Southfork River his home waters and enjoys everything from chucking streamers to drifting dries. However, large rivers, small alpine and desert streams continue to beckon him so he develops new patterns for those waters as well.

Logan’s flies are effective, durable and well tied and one of his greatest pleasures is sharing his flies with others and hearing about their successes.
