Tom Adams

Tom Adams is a native Charlotte North Carolinian whose father was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains in a tiny place called Meatcamp.  It was Daniel Boone’s camp to dry out meat.  His father was a lifelong hunter and fisherman and passed the joy of both along to Tom.

Tom’s career is primarily that of professional advertising photographer and the past thirty five years have seen a lot of photo production.  Published in magazines (Southern Accents, Southern Living, Seventeen, Mademoiselle etc.), newpapers throughout the South including USA Today, photography has been the driving creative force for Tom, leading eventually to trout and fly tying.  A fly fisherman since age fourteen, his native water of Lake Wylie provided a superb warm water venue for learning the long rod.  While the hardware chunkers surrounded him, the pleasure of “bug fishin’” was all he wanted.  Delaying fishing North Carolina’s trout streams, mostly because “he was afraid he would like it and they were too far away“ until a decade ago did not diminish the joy of discovery and is far and away the most compelling obsession for him today.  Fly tying was a natural step and has allowed Tom’s creativity to come forward.

Acknowledgment and respect for the masters who have preceded Tom have shaped the approach to “creating new” flies.
