Description: The Czech Nymph was developed for fishing in fast waters where a fly needs to get to the bottom as quickly as possible. These are tied with varying amounts of weight so that as you move around the stream, the correctly weighted fly can be used. They are super effective when fished as a team of three, but work well by themselves with an indicator. They can be tied in a limitless amount of colors from the standard olives to the bright pinks and oranges. If you are serious about Czech Nymphing, you need to have a variety of these flies in various sizes and colors in your fly box.
What it imitates: Free roaming Caddis pupa.
When to fish it: These flies will fish all year long and work best in fast to medium fast water.
Where to fish it: Tailwaters and Freestone rivers are perfect places to fish the Czech Nymph, especailly when using the Czech Nymphing technique with three flies. The technique and flies excel in areas where fish have a tendency to hold, such as ledges, areas behind boulders, and other "fishy" looking spots.
How to fish it: Fish these fies with a flip reach cast upstream and lead the flies downstream, but never pull them or let them swing under the rod-tip. Fish with only a few feet of flyline out from the last guide and keep the rod low to the water. If the Indicator Leader pauses or moves adnormally, set the hook with a quick downstream pull.
