Description: The Fool's Gold Stone is very effective for many brown or tan stoneflies. SLF dubbing and rubber tails/antennae provide maximum movement. This pattern reflects light like a natural and is weighted to be fished along the bottom.
What it imitates: Stoneflies
When to fish it: Because of a Stonefly's lifecycle, this fly can be fished effectively year-round. Stoneflies can molt their skins up to 30 times and some species take up to 4 years to develop from egg to adult. Pale colored soft skinned nymphs that have just molted their skins are a particularly attractive target for resident fish. This pattern effectively imitates the pale recently molted darker nymphs, as well as brown and tan bugs. The nymphs crawl along the bottom and eventually out from the water to hatch on land where they are safe from hungry fish. The trout follow them in their migration which is why this fly is so productive when dead drifted along the bottom.
Where to fish it: Any stream, river or freestone river that is well oxygenated, clean, cold and briskly moving.
How to fish it: Dead drift.
Approximate turnaround time to complete order: 2 weeks
MINIMUM ORDER FOR THIS FLY IS 1 UNIT - 1 UNIT CONSISTS OF 1/2 DOZEN FLIES
