Description: The Foxee Bastard is my "go to" fly; it is the Wooly Bugger of the Mike Schmidt arsenal. It will produce in situations when all other flies fail. The motion of the fox tail and hint of flash will seduce event the wariest of fish to strike!
What it imitates: Based on size, it can imitate nymphs, baby crayfish, or baitfish
When to fish it: The Foxee Bastard is a year round producer in any conditions
Where to fish it: Conceived as a river pattern, but this fly has produced in tailwaters and open water as well. This fly can be used in both coldwater and warmwater situations.
How to fish it: The way to fish this fly varies based on size. Tied in a large nymph size you will want to dead drift it as a stillborn or short strips. In a baby crayfish size it is best fished by casting to cover and then slow retrieve away. If in a baitfish size then twitchy strips are the key.
