Description

The Mar Lodge is an old classic Atlantic Salmon pattern from around 1890. Originating from the Scottish river Dee and takes the name of a fishing lodge near the Mar beat. Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Fife, supposedly had successfully used the fly in 1893. The outstanding feature of this version by Kelson, Hardy, and Hale, is the body consisting of two outside silver sections with a middle of black. The full dressed Mar Lodge would be classified as a mixed wing with marriages of swan (goose substitute), turkey, and pheasant wing with golden pheasant topping. The fly pattern has been used successfully in Canada and has undergone several modifications which includes a popular hair wing dressing.
