Moose River Selection

Our northeastern rivers can often be very challenging and an angler needs to be prepared to deal with a wide range of conditions.  The Moose River is representative of these challenging waters.  It holds Landlocked Salmon, Brook Trout and even some Lake Trout that come out of Moosehead Lake.  These fish may be feeding on smelt or a wide variety of insect hatches so, the well prepared angler has to be willing to observe what is happening on- and in- the water, and be ready to change his tactics. The Moose River Selection includes sixteen (16) flies that have proved successful for me and my customers and provides the variety that is needed in your fly box.  
 
"This summer I was invited to go on a trip to the Moosehead Lake area to fish for Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout.  This was uncharted water for me.  I'm an avid saltwater fly fisherman and fly tyer, but had never fly fished for trout, so I turned to Rick for advice and counsel as to what flies to bring along on the trip.  He described the types of hatches I would be encountering and offered several suggestions for flies to have in my fly box, including dry flies, nymphs and streamers.  By the end of the trip, three clear winners had emerged.  The Haystack turned out to be a terrific fly for a neophyte dry fly fisherman- easy to see and manage.  The brookies loved it, too!  The Henryville Special, once I had figured out the right body color, tied on size 14 and 16 hooks became my "go to" dry and emerger as my dry fly presentation proficiency increased.  And finally, Rick's Orange Grey Ghost Marabou...
