Description: The Never-Sink Diver is one of the world's great bass flies made even better! One drawback to deer hair bass bugs is that they eventually get waterlogged and sink. By adding a piece of 3mm foam to the collar of the deer hair diver, it stays on top longer, and even when it gets soaked through, it will still rise into the surface film. Rabbit strip tail, rubber legs for extra movement, and a heavy mono weedguard make this my favorite bass bug for spring and fall topwater action.
What it imitates: Frog, wounded baitfish
When to fish it: Late spring, early summer mornings, fall
Where to fish it: Lake shorelines, ponds
How to fish it: Strip it hard to make it dive, then let it float back to the top and rest. Or pull it under and retrieve in slow strips to swim it just under the surface.
