Description: This set of Hairy Buggers are the most consistant "searching" patterns I use in any lake...bar none. Wooly Buggers suggest a lot of differnt trout food: dragonfly nymphs, damselfly nymphs, leeches, baitfish or just about anything that might be alive and "edible" in a fishes world. For that very reason, I designed this set of six Hairy Buggers (Black & Chartreuse, Claret & Black, Olive, Olive Brown, Rusty and Rusty Olive) with various materials to give color, movement and attractor-like qualities to the flies; Swishers Wiggly and Rubber Hackle to give the fly action and a red glass bead that sparkles and attracks. I use a 4x long hook. If you fish lakes, like I do, you want a mix of colors and sizes!
What it imitates: Dragonfly nymphs, Damsefly nymphs, Leeches, Baitfish
When to fish it: Any time of the day when there is little to no surface activity. I start out with the Olive Brown pattern, by far the most consisant color and change colors from there.
Where to fish it: Works best in any lake, but can be used in some rivers and sloughs. Look for "weedy" areas.- best place to locate fish.
How to fish it: I like to fish these with an intermediate full sink line with a 7 - 8 foot leader. I locate "weedy" areas or underwater ledges, cast, let the line sink and begin to strip slowly...vary the strip until you start to get hits.
