Description: This is a very simple but effective hopper pattern. A lot of hopper patterns are very beautiful, intricately tied imitations that are effective but time consuming to tie. The Nothing Fancy Hopper is beautiful in its simplicity. With this design I have taken a more practical approach, focusing on silhouette and movement. The foam body provides the silhouette and the rubber legs provide the life giving movement. With its foam body this hopper will float all day. This is a great addition to any terrestrial box.
What it imitates: Hopper
When to fish it: Mid-summer through fall
Where to fish it: Any waters where grass hopper are seen. Stream edges, especially where there is grass and low bushes along the bank. Can also be effective along the shore of a pond with heavy vegetation or tall grass.
How to fish it: Cast hopper to a likely spot along the stream bank and let the current take it. Give it just a little tug or two but don't overdue it, try to keep it as natural as possible. Do the same along the shore line of your favorite trout pond. Works well as an indicator fly for a dropper fly.
