Description: I developed the PMD Soft Hackle over the last 2 years while fishing Western rivers and in Yellowstone Park. This fly imitates an emerging PMD Mayfly. It has proven deadly effective on all fish, rising or otherwise. Fish this fly on the swing to a rising or holding fish during all phases of the hatch.
As a side note, I have fished this fly during a Sulpher hatch in North Carolina and the fish took it with reckless abandonment there as they did in and around the Yellowstone Park area. The fly is offered on Tiemco's Competition hooks. The curvature of these hooks is my personal favorite for their hook up ratio and holding capability. The shape of the hook and design of the fly make for one truly sexy fly.
Tier's Note: Barbed hooks are offered in sizes #13 and #15. Barbless hooks are offered in #14 and #16.
What it imitates: Emerging PMD (Pale Morning Dun)
When to fish it: All phases of a Mayfly hatch, make sure you fish it right after a hatch as well.
Where to fish it: Freestone rivers and streams and tailwaters
How to fish it: On the swing , down and across , upstream , there is no wrong way
