Description: The Peacock Spyder has been my "change up" fly since the mid 90's. Whenever I get a fish that comes to a fly but refuses it, I go to the Spyder. The simple profile and understated sparkle from the peacock breast feather make this a low, clear water killer. Like most of my steelhead patterns, the Peacock Spyder is tied on a Daiichi 2151 with a straight eye so it can be fished with a non-slip loop knot. Movement catches fish and the loop allows the fly to swim.
This is one of my original patterns featured in Lani Waller's "A Steelheader's Way".
Steelhead are too noble a fish to be caught with an ugly fly....
What it imitates: Absolutely nothing...
When to fish it: As a low water fly, or anytime fish seem to be turning down your favorite pattern.
Where to fish it: Anywhere steelhead swim. Born on the Deschutes this fly has fooled fish everywhere!
How to fish it: Wet fly swing...the only way to fish for steelhead in my humble opinion.
