Description: The Philo Caddis Emerger uses Jack Gartside's approach of incorporating a soft aftershaft feather as a thorax. This approach creates a fly that has a lot of lifelike motion in the water and is extremely effective. I usually use aftershaft feathers from a ring-neck pheasant to create the effect I am trying to achieve.
What it imitates: Emerging caddis flies
When to fish it: Either during a caddis "hatch", right after a caddis hatch or simply as a searching pattern.
Where to fish it: The Philo Emerger is effective in rivers and streams throughout the Northeast and where there are caddis flies.
How to fish it: This is generally fished by casting quartering downstream and fish the swing on a relatively taut line. Particularly during periods of active caddis hatches, an upstream cast and a dead drift is also very effective.
