Description

Description:  The Legendary Bighorn River guide, Bob Krumm, introduced me to this fly back in 1990.  A pod of Bighorn browns were surprisingly tough, sipping PMD's as smugly as Henry's Fork fish.  Each presentation was casually dismissed.  Bob suggested that I try one of his cripples.  Those tough fish became easy, and the PMD Cripple continued to dupe tough fish for the remainder of the trip.

Bringing it back east, and making a few minor modifications, I found that it was equally effective on Delaware browns and rainbows.  It's success lies in its versatility; it can represent sulfur duns, spinners, crippled duns, crippled spinners, etc.  Dubbing is figure-eighted under the thorax, separating and lifting precious hackle fibers, resulting in superior flotation and a clean silhouette.  This fly has become my go-to sulfur pattern and was featured in my June 2014 "Fly Tyer" magazine article, "The Delaware Dozen".

What it imitates:  Eastern sulfurs and some Steno's, western PMD's

When to fish it:  May to September

Where to fish it:  Freestone streams and rivers, tailwaters

How to fish it:  Dead drift

Order completion Time: Depends on size of order, usually 1 week
