Description: The West Branch Bugger is a small stream specialist. I designed this pattern for the small clear streams of New Hampshire's White Mt. National Forest, such as The Ellis, The Peabody and Wild rivers. I first tested this fly on the West Branch of the Peabody River more than two miles up in the Great Gulf Wilderness area. It was well received by the brook trout that call this rugged mountain stream home. The bead chain eyes add just enough weight to help get the fly down into the mid depths of the pools quickly. This is one of the few flies I will carry when I want to travel light while hiking up into the mountains for a day of beautiful scenery and great brook trout fishing.
What it imitates: Small fish, crayfish, leeches, possibly larger insects
When to fish it: Any time
Where to fish it: This streamer works great in small freestone streams, but would work well in tailwaters, rivers and lakes
How to fish it: I like to cast this bugger to the downstream end of a pool then strip it back to me, varying the retrieve. I sometimes let the current take it back down then draw it back to me, doing this several times. I will also use this technique in the riffles.
Approximate time to complete this order: 5 days
MINIMUM ORDER FOR THIS FLY IS 1 UNIT - 1 UNIT CONSISTS OF 1/2 DOZEN FLIES
